Unapproved drugs in cognitive enhancement supplements expose the problem of today’s world — the assumption that hacks are good for everything.

Typical nootropic formulas work gradually, over extended periods of time. Consumers are expecting rapid onset, more focus, less sleepiness, and all of that NOW. Industry responds by adding unapproved drugs, as this study shows. Blame industry (I do it here). But also notice that often reasonable people have unreasonable expectations.

People are hacking everything, including their health and mental wellbeing, with the belief that everything can be hacked, that there’s a shortcut for everything.

Brain, unfortunately, doesn’t work that way.
